INDIA VS ENGLAND 2ND T20I MATCH REPORT: ENGLAND WINS A THRILLING CONTEST AT MANCHESTER DESPITE ARSHDEEP'S EARLY STRIKES

 

India vs England 2nd T20I: England Wins a Close Match in Manchester

India and England finally played a full cricket match today at Old Trafford in Manchester. Fans were very sad when the first match in Chester-le-Street got cancelled due to heavy rain. Tonight, both teams wanted a good win to get an early lead in this five-match T20 series.

England captain Harry Brook won the toss and decided to bowl first. He wanted to get help from the cloudy English weather. India had a big surprise in their team today. They picked 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi instead of Sanju Samson. This young boy had a lot of eyes on him before the first ball.

Good Runs from Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan

India wanted big runs from the very first over. Young Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit two great sixes but got out quickly for 14 runs. Then Abhishek Sharma took the pressure away from India. He hit the ball hard and scored 43 runs off 24 balls. He smashed 8 fours but missed a big score because he got out to a slower ball from Sam Curran.

India reached 65 runs in the first six overs of the powerplay. After that, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer made a good plan. They took single runs and hit occasional boundaries to keep the score moving. Ishan Kishan played a very safe game and scored 49 runs from 40 balls. He was very sad to get out just one run before his fifty.

Shreyas Iyer also scored a fast 37 runs for the team. Shivam Dube came next but made only 5 runs. India looked into trouble for some time, but Tilak Varma finished the job well. He scored 24 runs in just 11 balls. He hit two massive sixes in the last over. Harshit Rana also hit a six on the final ball. India made a big score of 190/7 in 20 overs.

Sam Curran Gets 3 Wickets for England

England bowled well in short spells today. The big news for the home fans was Jofra Archer coming back to the T20 team. He bowled very fast and took 1 wicket for 40 runs in his four overs. Josh Tongue played his first match today but gave away 46 runs with no wickets.

Sam Curran was the best bowler for England tonight. He used his brain and slower balls to stop the Indian batters from scoring freely. He took 3 wickets for 33 runs. Will Jacks and Liam Dawson got 1 wicket each, but Adil Rashid got no wickets tonight.

Arshdeep Singh Takes Quick Wickets for India

England needed 191 runs to win this game, but their start was terrible. India's opening bowler Arshdeep Singh destroyed their top order in the very first over. He bowled an amazing ball to clean up England captain Jos Buttler for a golden duck (0 runs). Right on the next ball, Arshdeep struck again by removing the dangerous Phil Salt for another duck. The home crowd went completely silent.

With England in deep trouble, Harry Brook came out with a very aggressive mindset. He started hitting boundaries everywhere to lower the pressure. Brook made a quick 39 runs from just 15 balls, smashing 4 fours and 3 massive sixes. Indian spinner Axar Patel finally stopped him by taking his wicket. After that, Tom Banton and Jacob Bethell tried their best to fix the damage. Banton scored 39 runs from 32 balls, and Bethell kept the scoreboard ticking to keep England in the fight.

Jacob Bethell Wins the Match for England

The match became very tight in the final overs. England needed almost 11 runs per over to win. But young Jacob Bethell played the best innings of his life and took the game away from India. He hit the Indian fast bowlers all over the ground. Bethell scored a brilliant 76 runs off just 45 balls with 5 fours and 4 massive sixes.

Sam Curran also helped him at the end by scoring a quick 12 runs. Arshdeep Singh came back to take his third wicket and finished with good figures of 3 for 35. But the other Indian bowlers could not stop the runs in the final overs. England chased down the target easily, reaching 191/5 in 18.4 overs to win the match by 5 wickets.

With this great win, England now leads the 5-match series 1-0. Both teams will travel to Nottingham for the 3rd T20 match next.
