India outclasses Zimbabwe in 2nd T20I to wrap up the series 2-0
It was another clinical day on the field for team India in Harare. They completely outplayed Zimbabwe by 90 runs in the second T20I on Saturday, July 25, to pocket the three-match series with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Sent in to bat first, the Indian batters went out all guns blazing to post a mammoth 219/5 on the board. Ishan Kishan set the platform with a blistering 81 off 44 balls, before Tilak Varma provided the late fireworks, smashing an unbeaten 60 off just 29 deliveries.
Chasing a massive 220, Zimbabwe never really looked in the hunt. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bundled out for a mere 129 in 17.5 overs, giving the visitors an easy win.
Kishan, Tilak power India to a massive 219/5
Though India didn't have the most explosive start, the middle-order batters ensured they put up a match-winning total. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showed intent early on, chipping in with a quickfire 9-ball 20.
Once he fell, Ishan Kishan anchored the innings beautifully alongside Tilak Varma. Kishan was in top form, punishing the hosts' bowling attack with 9 boundaries and 2 hits over the fence during his 44-ball stay.
At the other end, Tilak Varma matched his partner's aggression and cleared the boundary with ease. He remained not out on 60 off just 29 balls, a knock laced with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Their massive 94-run stand for the fourth wicket completely took the game away from Zimbabwe and pushed India past the 200-run mark.
Zimbabwe falter after a promising start
The hosts showed some fight early in their run-chase. Opener Brian Bennett gave them a glimmer of hope with a brisk 19-ball 32, which included three boundaries and as many sixes.
However, the Indian bowlers pulled things back just when it mattered. Tadiwanashe Marumani tried holding one end with a 19-ball 24, but the rest of the batting lineup crumbled under pressure. Without any significant partnerships, Zimbabwe's chase lost steam pretty quickly.
Abhishek Sharma stars with the ball
While it was a combined bowling effort from India, Abhishek Sharma turned out to be the wrecker-in-chief. He ran through the lower order, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 17 in his 2.5 overs.
Yash Thakur also had a good outing with 2 wickets for 30 runs in his full quota, while Prince Yadav chipped in with two scalps of his own to seal the 90-run victory.
Series pocketed 2-0
This comprehensive win seals the series for India with a game to spare, making it Shreyas Iyer’s first T20I series win as the full-time captain.
While India will look for a 3-0 whitewash in the final match, Zimbabwe will have to fix their batting woes to finish the series on a high note.
Match Summary:
- India: 219/5 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan 81, Tilak Varma 60*)
- Zimbabwe: 129 all out in 17.5 overs (Abhishek Sharma 3/17)
- Result: India won by 90 runs
